Are JWs more tight with money than normal people?
by Julia Orwell inactually, in my experience, i have not found them to be tighter or more generous with money.
i've found them to be about the same with handling money as non-jws, though less likely to invest their money, but unlikely to waste it on cigarettes, pubs/clubs and gambling like many non-jws do.
i certainly don't find them tighter or stingier than normal people though, and slightly more honest.. what are your experiences with jws and money compared to non-jws and money?.

Of course, they are.
JWs are encouraged to not persue higher education resulting in moderate income, instead they are cheered on in seeking low paying jobs. To make ends meet they'll keep on to the little precious money they hold in their hands.

AGM - has it been rolled out to all Witnesses
by insearchoftruth inmy wife has been pretty inactive with the folks who have been trying to get her to study going on about nine months now.
just recently the last gal she studied with has been calling her and trying to get her interest again.
the congregation she had attended was a spanish speaking congregation and i guess i am wondering (actually thinking) that the renewed zeal is a bump from the agm.

It used to be called General Annual Meeting, others refered to it as the Annual General Meeting.
Nowadays it's just called Annual Meeting.
ANNUAL meetings of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania always generate excitement. (...) Invited guests from all over the world gathered at the Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Jersey City, New Jersey, U.S.A. (2012 The Watchtower, 8/15 p. 16)
. . . and,
welcome to the board, Zandor.

So how exactly did this "new translation" come to be?
by sir82 ina normal person, upon hearing that a new (or revised) bible translation has been released, would have 2 questions spring to mind almost immediately:.
1) who did the work, and what are their credentials?.
2) what manuscripts is the work based on?.

besty >>> 2013 Besty Revised Edition: "Get her for me, for her brazen ass is one of hotness."
Corrupting the scriptures, eh? Shouldn't it read: "Get her for me, for her brazen ass donkey is one of hotness." ?

The new translation of John 17:3 seems like a major shift.
by paul from cleveland inup until now, everlasting life was dependent on "taking in knowledge".
it was a perfect fit for a publishing house to interpret that scripture that way.
if we didn't keep up with the endless stream of publications from the watchtower our salvation would be in jeopardy.

Not just coming to know, but their continuing to know, or rather, their taking in knowledge of God and Jesus Christ results in everlasting life.

.
Any shade of gray is a color-saving measure. Not to forget, also a huge cost-saving measure.

Not Forsaking Christian Gatherings
by StephaneLaliberte inat the meeting this week, there was a part about placing our trust in jehovah and not worrying about food and shelter (mat 6:33).
the part was based on the 2013 yearbook p138 and 139 where there were two examples:.
a family went to their convention leaving their chickens unattended for a number of days, worried about if they would survive.

Summary / conclusion of the 4 study articles of WT 07/15/2013 - anyone?
by bats in the belfry in... learning the [new] truth can be a shattering experience.. .
the truth is often disagreeable, because it fails to support prejudice or myth.
the encyclopedia americana.

Very telling is the quote continuation in that Encylopedia Americana when it says:
In the short run, the suppression of known truth and the prohibition of free inquiry into truths yet unknown often serve some special interest or privilege.
How true, when the spotlight of special privilege is on the 'Glorious Eight'.
And have they not just done so by prohibiting the flock to do a free inquiry into things (research) ?
